International Worship Center Critics: High Level of Ignorance

Richard Peters

The recent outcry by the APC folks about the ecumenical worship centre proposed to be constructed by the Akwa Ibom State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel is a brazen display of malice laced with ignorance. Governor Emmanuel, out of his desire to ensure that Akwa Ibom State – a state named after God reflects its spiritual essence, initiated the building of a 8,500 capacity International worship centre located at the commercial layout, Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo.

But out of their hatred and malice not only against the Governor, but also against the propagation of the gospel, the APC in their usual mannerism have cultivated the habit of kicking against the project which is definitely going to promote holiness and consciousness of the gospel in every Akwa Ibom person. At first, the APC (under the guise of Atheist Society of Nigeria) went on rampage to file a suit against the construction of the International Worship Centre in the State, but the case did not see the light of the day and was struck out by the High Court because God himself is involved in the construction of a befitting place to worship Him (God). Even in the Bible (1 Chronicles 28:3), God wanted a man of peace to construct the temple, not a man of war. Udom is a man of peace, hence, he has been ordained by God to construct a befitting temple in the state to become a house of prayer for all Akwa Ibom people (Isaiah 56:7), where the people can gather to worship God in spirit and in truth.

Even in the Bible, there were synagogues (place of worship) in almost every city, yet David still saw the need to build a temple unto God. It is not about going to church or having a church organization, it is about having a befitting edifice where all Christians (irrespective of church denomination) come together with a common interest to worship God.

The International Worship Centre is a place ordained by God for Akwa Ibom people through the able leadership of Governor Udom Emmanuel so that Akwa Ibom people will be liberated from the burden of having to move from The Uyo township stadium, Ibom Hall, etc., in search of a place to gather and worship God (I Chronicles 17:9); and no devise of the wicked can stop it.

They are ignorant of the fact that even David in the Bible (1 Chronicles 17: 1) proposed in his mind to build a temple of the Lord when he realized that while he (David) was dwelling in a palace (“an house of cedars”). Udom, like David, is building the International worship centre to provide a befitting worship temple for God in Akwa Ibom State.
