No fewer than five hundred women who were hired by the All Progressive Congress (APC) to come out and receive the First Lady of Nigeria, Mrs. Aisha Buhari were today stranded in the streets of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
Our correspondent in Uyo reports that the women who came from various local government areas of the state were seen either sitting or standing on the side of the road and pavement desperately making calls to different people to come to their rescue.
One of the women go gave her name as Iniobong Ekpo said they were promised money by APC leaders but after the occasion none of the showed up.
“We have been calling the numbers they gave us but nobody is picking our calls. I did not want to come here but my friends persuaded me. Now this is night, how will I go back to Mkpat Enin and meet children? Is this how APC wants to govern the state? People who tell lies in small issues should not be trusted with anything important.” Mrs Ekpo lamented.
But Mrs Gloria Urue Uno, another woman, from Oron thinks differently. She argued that politics is a game of sacrifice which according to her, could turn out to be good or bad. Whatever one finds herself in, it’s better to endure.
“I’ve been in politics before and a long time. I know there was a poor arrangement by the leaders of APC. This should not make anyone to be angry. We are in Uyo; this is my state. Nothing will happen to us. If they don’t come pick us or give us what they promised, we should not be despaired or angry. It’s game of luck. If it’s not good today, it will be good tomorrow.” Mrs. Uno advised her fellow stranded women
It was already nightfall as at the time of filing this report, and the women were still yawning, spacing around and making frantic calls even as they now bested their hopes on “miracle God.”
