Ahead of the 2019 gubernatorial election in Akwa Ibom, the Paramount Ruler of Uyo LGA, His Royal Majesty, Etebom Sylvanus Okon has thrown his weight behind the reelection of Mr Udom Emmanuel as the state Governor.
The Paramount Ruler who made his endorsement of Udom Emmanuel public while interacting with newsmen at his palace noted that since Udom Emmanuel came on board as Governor, the state has been relatively peaceful and for this to continue, there is need for his reelection come 2019.
The monarch and an elder statesman, Okon emphasised that based on the arithmetic formula of zoning arrangements in the past where a Senatorial District were given the opportunity to produced a Governor, from a single candidacy who reign for eight years, same opportunity should be given to Udom Emmanuel.
According to him, if Uyo Senatorial District had rule for eight years under Obong Attah, and Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District rule for eight years under Godswill Akpabio, Eket Senatorial District should also be given the opportunity to rule the state under Udom Emmanuel for eight years too, this he said for justice and equity to prevail in the state.
The Royal Majesty said he had observed that Akwa Ibom State has witnessed an appreciable influx of industries under Udom Emmanuel, while commending the Governor for taking the health of the citizens very important with provision of medical facilities, renovation and erecting of new hospital blocks in the state.
He appreciated effort of the Governor in providing electricity supply, building of roads, ensuring security of live and properties of citizens, boost economy and taken care of the wellbeing of aged, the traditional rulers, among others in the state.
He called on the people of the state to eschew violence during the 2019 elections, while condemning act of some people from certain quarters intending to liaise with federal might to unleash mayhem on the state in other to clinch power by all means, specifically those drumming up for war.
The Paramount said that Power Belongs To God and he giveth it to whom ever he pleases, and therefore called on the politicians to toe the path of peace, nothing that it is with peace that development can thrive.
While calling on all Akwa Ibom people to go out and vote during the election, he warned the youth not to allow themselves to be used as thugs to cause violence in the election considering the inferno that engulfed the state in previous election in the past and it’s negative effect on the people, the economy and security.
