The Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (#ANAN) has thrown its weight behind the re-election bid of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019. ANAN, led to the presidential villa by its leader, Shehu Ladan, for a meeting with the President, hailed the administration’s policies, which, according to him, have brought the country out of recession and placed Nigeria on the path of sound economic growth. He said a second term for President Buhari-led administration would bring more succour to the citizenry. “We have no doubt that the second term of Your Excellency will bring more succour to the citizenry and a better economy, the ANAN president said.
Ladan, who conveyed the group’s support for President Buhari’s second term ambition in an address, cited implementation of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) and other economic policies as having ensured improved government revenue and cash flows by instilling fiscal discipline in the system and plugging loopholes for leakages. The ANAN president said that the image of the country had soared in the comity of nations since the inception of the All Progressives Congress (APC) government led by President Buhari while he also commended the government’s efforts towards returning the economy to the path of growth, especially policies put in place to diversify the economy away from dependence on crude oil revenue. “We have become the beautiful bride.
This can be attributed mainly to the transparency of the government, the hard stance against corruption and related vices and the integrity of leadership,” he said, adding: “Monoeconomy must give way to the productive development of the various sectors of the economy, especially the agricultural sector, that has witnessed revolution since the inception of this administration.
“The government is creating the enabling environment to attract both local and foreign private sector investment in the country. The issues of power, security, and stable exchange rate, among others are key determinant factors in attracting investments. We are happy that the government is addressing these issues.” While also commending the government’s N-Power scheme aimed at reducing the rate of unemployment in the country, the ANAN president expressed confidence that with commitment, the war against corruption and insurgency will turn out successful. A statement by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, Femi Adesina, later quoted President Buhari as saying government is even more energised in ensuring accountability in the country. “President Buhari said insistence on the financial structure required much sacrifice and focus on the part of the government as “accountability’’ was no longer optional. One of the cardinal objectives of this administration is that people and all government institutions must give account for what comes in and goes out. “President Buhari urged accountants to remain focused and support the government in the ongoing fight against corruption, warning that they might not be liked by many people because of their professional ethics, but the sacrifice was necessary for the country to grow,” the statement said.
