Fresh indications have emerged that Senator Godswill Akpabio’s recent maneuver to return to the PDP and take a prominent role in #AtikuAbubakar’s presidential campaign ship, stems from an earlier deal sealed with the presidential hopeful, and his conviction that Nigerians will deliver #AsoRock to the PDP in 2019.

“You have come into the Afe Nkuku Nung Akpabio(sacred court of the Akpabio family), no one comes in here loses in any political contest. As you have stepped in here, I prophesy that you will be the next President of Nigeria, mark this date.”

The date was May 2, 2018 and Senator Godswill Akpabio made the declaration when he and his wife Mrs Unoma Akpabio led Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to his Ukana Ikot Ntuen country home in Essien Udim local government area to pledge their allegiance to his ambition.

Atiku was accompanied by former Governors Babangida Aliyu of Niger State and Gbenka Daniels of Ogun State, and they were awed by the decision of Atiku to accede to the request of Senator Akpabio who told them that nobody enters the inner sanctum, without receiving the assurances that are binding on the entire Akpabio family.

It was learnt that Akpabio endorsed Atiku and introduced him to the political generals in the State assuring them of the sterling credentials of the former vice president, who he said was going to rescue Nigeria from the current poor leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Akpabio had secured the assurances of Alhaji Atiku of positions that should come the way of Akwa Ibomites in his government, while his presence as Vice President will easily secure the support of the south south region.

Vice President for Godswill Akpabio and Minister of Petroleum Resources to an Akwa Ibom indigene were some of Akpabio’s conditions which Atiku gave his full nod.

Among the few dignitaries who witnessed the solemn oath of support to Atiku Abubakar by Godswill Akpabio, was Dr. Chris Ekpenyong who supported Akpabio’s appeal to be accepted as running mate to Atiku Abubakar.

With the exit of the former minority leader to the APC, the political warriors including Senators Anietie Okon, Dr. Chris Ekpenyong, Senator Emmanuel Ibokessien, Senator Effiong Bob, Senator Helen Esuene and Chief Nduese Essien took over and brilliantly sold the Atiku brand to the political class in the state.

This contributed to the victory of the Presidential hopeful at Port Harcourt PDP convention, as Atiku Abubakar won by almost half of the total votes cast by delegates from the 36 states and the federal capital territory.
Atiku’s victory however took a twist when Godswill Akpabio’s media aides took to the social media to celebrate the emergence of PDP flagbearer.

Jackson Udom the Senior Special Assistant on Media to Senator Akpabio, Miss Mfonobong Usoroh, his Personal Assistant on New Media and Anietie Ekong, the lawmaker’s Press Secretary were full of commendation for Atuku Abubakar on their facebook post, as they expressed how desirous Akpabio had looked forward to the emergence of the Waziri Adamawa.

Mfonobong Usoroh wrote, “”Congratulations Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. Anietie Ekong et Kufre Okure our man don win oh.”

Corroborating this, Jackson Udom said, “Senator Akpabio, even before he moved to the APC, brought and endorsed Atiku as the state’s candidate.”

Although the pressure from unknown quarters has forced Jackson to capitulate and withdraw the congratulatory message from his facebook timeline, credible media sources report frantic moves by Senator Akpabio to re-unite with Atiku on the premise of earlier promised Vice Presidential ticket.

Akpabio whose entrance into the APC has brought confusion and endless cries among members of the party in the state, is allegedly intensifying lobby to return to the PDP with the prospect of the success of the party in the Presidential election next year.
