Barring any last minute change of mind, the former member representing Oron Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon Robinson Uwak, may be dumping his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
A close ally of the former lawmaker, told National Newstrack authoritatively that the Akwa Ibom State governor has been courting Hon Uwak and their had been a meeting between the two at the Government House Uyo, where details of the move were perfected. He said that Hon Uwak had been on the governor’s shopping list since his reliable strong man in his camp, Hon Victor Antai joined former Governor Godswill Akpabio to decamp to the APC.
“The governor has been looking for a strong force to counter the strength of Hon Antai in Oro land and he considers Uwak as that major counterforce”, he said.
Asked what Hon Uwak is thinking, our source, said that the former lawmaker is seriously considering the move. He said Hon Uwak has been hard pressed to remain in the same party with Senator Akpabio, who our source said was always on warpath because of how Uwak had challenged the former governor in the run up to the 2015 governorship election in the state.
“Uwak is seriously considering this offer to defect. He has been telling us of his discomfiture in remaining in APC with Senator Godswill Akpabio, who was the main reason why he left the PDP in the first place. Remember that Uwak had protested the deliberate scheming by Akpabio that denied the Oro people their right and chance to become the governor of the state. It was Akpabio that schemed Oro out of the governorship in 2015. Uwak was the only courageous politician in Oro land that fought Akpabio to ensure that Oro got justice. So for Akpabio to come and join the APC today and still continues in the manipulation of the process to send weak representatives to represent Oro, is actually what is making Hon Uwak to consider moving into the PDP”, our source revealed to National Newstrack.
For now, it is still not clear when the former lawmaker will make his move, but the governor is said to be upbeat in anticipation of the move, considering the significance of a block Oro vote, which, according to our source, “may go to APC if Hon Uwak is not made to join the PDP.”
